With over 15,000 assessments on 800,000 kilometers of pipeline from 22 pipeline operators and 38 inline inspection (ILI) companies, Irth Solutions is believed to have amassed the largest and most diversified set of ILI data in the industry. The “truth data” or field-found depths for over 100,000 metal loss anomalies are analyzed in accordance with API 1163 3rd edition concepts to study inline inspection performance on a large scale. This paper presents insights gained from analysing the ILI data, with the primary aim of identifying the factors, such as ILI company, technology, metal loss depth, metal loss classification, and pipeline diameter, that contribute to high ILI system performance, specifically for technologies that characterize metal loss. These insights are presented to enhance the performance of the inline inspection system for both ILI service providers and pipeline operators.
